Monte Montgomery – Tethered album packaging design

Monte Montgomery is considered one of the 50 best guitarists of all time. But he is also a great songwriter and I am always happy to collaborate with a legend. Just one live performance from this artist and it will make you an addict of his music forever.

Many thanks to Pierpaolo Adda (who is also artist and creator of international music events) for introducing me to Monte Montgomery. It has been a privilege to work on some of his projects.

“Tethered” is my third packaging design for Monte. It was a very important project about love. Dedicated to his daughter Sophie, who sadly passed away much too early, as well as his family and close friends. To express these feelings, I decided to create a sort of painting to use as texture, to give an artistic atmosphere. Because love and feelings are intimate and personal, much like art.

Monte asked me to create the cover artwork using his portrait made by his friend and artist, William K. Stidham. I created the background using gold color to extend the reflexes used in the portrait. For typography, I have chosen a gothic style for the album’s title, and a handwritten style for the artist’s logo, as if it was the signature of the artwork.

The images shown on this page of the booklet display one sample of the printed pages, with the lyrics and all the others as original artworks.

The project included the art direction and graphic design for the digipak with booklet and CD label, the flyer for coinciding events, t-shirts for merchandising, and the website.

In the sliding gallery above you can also find the logo I created for the record label Griselda Records. The MM monogram created for the project has also been used in the signature amplifier MM200 made by AER
